San Juan Islands

Original, hand-drawn story map and accompanying gifts of the Washington's San Juan Islands by renowned Illustrator and Xplorer Maps Co-Founder, Chris Robitaille.

The San Juan Island Archipelago consists of a staggering 172 islands, some only visible during extreme low tide and over 300 miles of shoreline; all depicted in our Xplorer Maps San Juan rendition.

Tucked away in the northwest corner of the contiguous United Sates in the state of Washington, the San Juan Islands archipelago is the traditional ancestral area of various peoples of the Coast Salish ethnolinguistic group.

Renowned for its Orca whales, sea kayaking and beautifully breathtaking rural and coastal landscapes, the Islands also claim the largest concentration of bald eagles in the lower 48. The 4 main islands (Orcas, San Juan Island, Lopez and Shaw) are served by the Washington State Ferry system and provide an eclectic and unique mix of quaint and historic communities, parks, beaches, old-growth forests and activities for millions of visitors and the fortunate local residents that call this place home.
